A healthcare application handling sensitive patient information needed a cloud foundation built to satisfy HIPAA and HITRUST expectations from the ground up, not bolted on after launch. We designed and built that AWS infrastructure, balancing strict security requirements against the team's need to keep shipping product at a normal pace.

The Challenge

Healthcare cloud infrastructure has to satisfy strict, specific requirements around access control, encryption, network isolation, and auditable monitoring — and those requirements don't go away just because a team is moving fast. The hard part isn't any single control in isolation; it's designing an architecture where security, scalability, and day-to-day developer velocity can all coexist without one being sacrificed for the others.

The Solution

We designed and built AWS infrastructure with layered security controls throughout: IAM-based least-privilege access management across environments, encryption at rest and in transit for sensitive data stores, network isolation through VPC segmentation to contain sensitive workloads, and centralized logging and monitoring built specifically for audit and incident response — not just basic uptime alerting. Every one of those pieces was designed to map to HIPAA and HITRUST control expectations so the infrastructure supports compliance operations on an ongoing basis, not just a one-time review.
